You Are What You Think You Are- 4 Tips to See Your Dream Realized

you are what you think

When I started the publishing process for my forthcoming book, Get Your Girl Back, I found myself working day and night on the strategies needed to build my list, gain valuable endorsements and to land an agent. One day I woke up and realized, “I can’t do this anymore.” In my effort to help women get their girl back, I had started to lose mine!

Burnt out, exhausted and in need of a break, I decided to just stop. Instinctually I knew that I couldn’t continue at the pace I was going. For over a month, I did nothing but the bare minimum which meant posting to my social media pages to continuing engaging my awesome fans (Get Your Girl Back movement). I used this time to reflect, think and listen for the answers I needed- How do I launch this book without sacrificing what matters most? How do I get celebrity endorsements? How do I properly partner with a charity (among many more burning questions)?

Upon reflection I realized that I had drifted from the core of who I was. It needed to trust the power of my mind to bring me ideas, resources, tools and people needed to manifest this dream. I was literally trying to force everything to happen and fast. Life just doesn’t work that way.

The result was I relaxed. I still worked, but without the stress and instead went back to trusting that what is meant to be will (with lots of hard work) and that if allowed, the universe would deliver something far greater than what I could ever imagine for myself. I tell you this because the same holds true for you. We are a world full of energy, it’s in everything and while we may not exactly understand it, what I do know is that when you put the power of thought into something you want and work toward it no matter how long it takes, it happens.

Here are three reminders to keep front and center as you navigate your life, pursue your dreams and prepare to meet your destiny:

  1. Decide What You Want: When you make a decision to do something and write it down with a deadline, you don’t realize it but you are literally half way there. So decide, what one thing do you really want to do in your life over the next one to two years?
  2. Define: Write down two to three action steps you can take every day that will move you closer to that dream. I call these steps, legs- Every day you will use those legs to walk closer toward that dream.
  3. Believe: As simple as it sounds, you can’t doubt your ability to accomplish your dream. It’s important to see that dream as if it were already yours. When negative or fearful thoughts creep in, replace them with focus on what it is you want.
  4. Stay the Course: At times it will seem as if you are never going to get to your dream but if you stay the course, you will. The last thing you want to do is quit a week or month before that dream unfolds!

You’ve probably heard some of this advice before. This time, I encourage you to listen closely to what that inner voice is saying to you right now- not the bully in your head! This time, don’t just listen to the advice in this blog, act on it.

I have five dream journals I’ve worked on over the past fifteen years of my life. As I flip through them, which I do monthly, I’m reminded that we are capable of so much more than we give ourselves credit for. The things that were once crazy dreams are now my reality and without first deciding I wanted those things to happen in my life, defining how to get them, believing in those dreams at all cost, and staying the course through tough times, I would have never known the feeling that came with seeing them realized. Now it’s your turn. You can do it- the first step is to decide!
